Practice Opportunity: Minnesota, Duluth
Opportunity Details
A well-established orthodontic practice in Duluth, Minnesota is seeking a full-time Junior Partner to join an established, patient-focused team. The ideal candidate is eligible for or already holds Minnesota & Wisconsin licensure with a minimum of 2 years of practicing. This is an opportunity to build a career and a life on the shore of Lake Superior, in a market defined by stability, a nationally recognized quality of life, and an affordability story that gives an orthodontist real room to put down roots.
The Market & Demographics: Duluth is situated in a regional hub of about 281,000 people serving northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. The median age is about 35, and the median household income is roughly $66,000. The region has been growing over the past several years, drawing a steady inflow of younger families and remote professional. The local economy is anchored by healthcare and higher education rather than any single volatile industry: Essentia Health and St. Luke's both run major hospital systems here, and the University of Minnesota Duluth, the College of St. Scholastica, and Lake Superior College bring a large, stable student-and-professional population to the area. For an orthodontist joining an established practice that serves as a regional referral center, the patient base is broad and durable rather than boom-and-bust.
Cost of Living: The economics work for an orthodontist building a household. Duluth's overall cost of living sits near the national average, but housing, the line item that matters most, runs well below it. A typical home is in the high-$200,000s, against a Minneapolis-St. Paul metro median above $400,000, which means a house with a yard, and in many neighborhoods a lake view, is a first-year reality rather than a five-year savings goal. Median rent runs around $1,000 a month.
Schools: For an orthodontist raising a family or planning to, the education infrastructure is a genuine draw. Several schools rank among the stronger performers in the state, including Congdon Park Elementary, Lester Park Elementary, and Duluth East High School, and the district is complemented by charter, private, and Montessori options. Higher education is unusually deep for a city this size, with three colleges and a university anchoring the community.
Travel & Access: The location gives you genuine access to a major metro without paying for it. The Twin Cities are about two and a half hours south on Interstate 35, and Duluth International Airport (DLH) offers daily Delta service to Minneapolis-St. Paul, connecting onward nationwide. As a Great Lakes port city, Duluth is also a destination in its own right, with North Shore weekend escapes, cruise-ship calls, and the Canadian border within reach.
